Spring QRM in Derby

Photography was the theme of the Spring QRM, held this time in Derby. Our QRMs (Quarterly Review Meetings) are an excuse for everyone from our three offices to get together an activity or workshop. Previously, we’ve had a talk from the former night editor at The Sun, inspirational speeches and team building exercises (although playing rounders two summers ago still ranks as a firm favourite).
So as the hosts of the Spring 2008 QRM, the Midlands team laid on a day dedicated to photography and visual communication, ran by Derbyshire photographer and lecturer Chris Beech. After an introductory session on visual communication, the group were split up into teams and each given a newspaper story with the aim of producing the picture and caption to match the story.
Working in a profession that tends to concentrate on words, it was interesting seeing how people responded to looking more as the visual side of a story. Congratulations to Chris’ team for coming up trumps for this picture (below) for the Times’ credit crunch story.
