Hello from InfoSecurity Europe…
Colleagues who had been there on Tuesday and Wednesday reported a greenhouse effect, but I am typing to the sound of it bucketing down with rain outside the impressive old hall at Olympia. We have heard the usual noise about this threat and that threat, and came across a rather more unusual man who accosted Emma and I at the main entrance dressed in a lab coat. We apologised that we couldn’t stop and talk as we had to meet clients but he still proceeded to shout at the top of his lungs, “That’s right walk away, you clearly work in IT. You have no social skills!” Interesting tactic to scream abuse at people for being geeks at an IT show. Rather unsurprisingly I have not seen any traffic at this strange little man’s booth.
After spending the morning strolling around the stands attending press briefings with our clients at the show, I met Ron Condon, who I am sure won’t mind me saying is a veteran of the show.
According to Ron, the hot topics (and he should know having been here since Tuesday) have been data threats and leakage and not necessarily those of a malicious nature. It would appear that enterprises are waking up to the fact that, just because it has the latest piece of security software or hardware, it can still be susceptible to security attacks due to staff not necessarily using the technology in the manner it was designed.
Any way must dash - Emma and I are on the hunt for a decent giveaway……..this is proving a tougher task than in previous years.
