The name’s Bond…

Written by Jo

This week marks 100 years since the birth of Ian Fleming, and an exhibition opens at the Imperial War Museum on 17 April to celebrate the centenary.

We do like a survey at Berkeley PR, so I asked our staff who was their favourite Bond. Daniel Craig was the undisputed winner, polling 37 per cent of the vote, followed by Sean Connery with 27 per cent. Bob Holness achieved a respectable seven per cent too; Dan maintains he once auditioned for the part.

Emma was lucky enough to meet a Bond:

“My dreams of Pierce were amazingly fulfilled when I met him having lunch at Pinewood Studios in the middle of filming Die Another Day. He was ACTUALLY dressed AS James Bond at the time – if anyone’s seen that film, he was in the military-style costume he wears during the fight with Toby Stephens at the end. I, of course, made a complete muppet of myself and closely resembled a goldfish as my mouth flapped up and down but no discernible words (or even sound, come to think of it) came out of my mouth. Pierce was very gracious though, obviously thinking I had special needs, and continued to make polite conversation with my boss.”

I also asked the team what their favourite 007 gadget was. The invisible Aston Martin came up quite a lot, alongside the exploding biro in Goldeneye and Oddjob’s bowler hat in Goldfinger. The Lotus submarine scored highly among the petrolheads (Becca). Meanwhile, Daniel Craig’s little blue swimming trunks in Casino Royale were a hit with a number of the ladies…
