Web surfer survey

I was having a browse around Absolute Gadget today when I came across a rather nice little news snippet about mobile web. According to a recent survey (and AG’s report), men outnumber women surfing the net on their mobile phone by a colossal nine to one!
I began to ponder: do our male counterparts really need internet access whilst on the move more than we do? Perhaps Google Maps might be a hot favourite while out and about, in favour over asking for directions?
Thinking more rationally, the most I have seen my male friends using mobile internet has been when there was a particularly important footie match on and they were “otherwise engaged” i.e. had been dragged to a wedding / family occasion by their significant other. I don’t blame them in the slightest for this impatience to “know” as I’m usually the first one to enquire after the findings once I’ve realised what they’re up to.
With this in mind, I suspect that free internet access is simply a stipulation for most men when negotiating a new mobile phone contract, while any woman like me will be more intent on trying to negotiate for the prettiest phone (shameful but true). If this is the case, why wouldn’t men be surfing the web for free while commuting or waiting for their 10 o’clock to arrive?
