To recycle or not to recycle - that is the question

Written by Kate

Nokia has become the latest in a long line of companies to make us feel guilty about our (lack of) recycling habits. Research released this week, found that only one in 10 people recycle their old mobile phone handsets. I must admit that I do have a pile of old handsets at home and, with free upgrades available each year, the pile is likely to keep on growing! While I blame my inability to recycle on pure laziness and a slight worry that phone numbers and text messages will remain on the phone, I would hazard a guess that a significant proportion of handsets actually end up on eBay where they sell for hundreds of pounds. So it’s really down to our social consciences: do we recycle or pocket the cash?
