I was interested to see that the breaking news of the day on the BBC was John Seargent’s departure from Strictly Come Dancing. It seems that even John’s growing fan base on Facebook and paying voting public couldn’t save him this time.
Some people are comparing this news to the Ross/Brand incident, accusing the BBC of failing to put a stop to the bullying John endured from the judges and some of his rival dancers. That’s up for debate. But, one thing is certain, if John entered Strictly to boost his profile and popularity in the UK then he has definitely succeeded where many celebrities taking part in similar reality shows have failed. A timely book launch, exclusive stories in the tabloids and appearances on popular chat shows will keep the PR show going. Plus, the fact that this story made headline news just proves the PR value for celebrities who sign up for reality TV shows.
