Darren Cronian, organiser of Travel Blog Camp
Last night I donned my thermals – has anyone else noticed the sudden drop in temperature? – and headed to the big smoke for the Travel Blog Camp (#tbcamp).
This is an annual event, in its second year, hosted and organised by the very well respected editor of Travel Rants, Darren Cronian. Held in the Doggett’s Riverside bar in Blackfriars, the venue was packed to the rafters. Squeezed in were travel bloggers, journalists, PRs and most importantly travel industry professionals.
Several topics were discussed during the course of the evening, including whether Mr Murdoch is right to charge for online content, if travel blogs are the new location guide books, Twitter, Twitter and more Twitter. But my personal highlights of the event were:
· Darren’s talk about the ugly side of blogging and, speaking from experience, the issue of moderating comments and how to handle potentially liable remarks.
· The presentation by Murray Harold of Advantage Travel in general. Murray was passionate, funny and knowledgeable. Even more impressive was the fact that he was the only speaker who didn’t need a microphone!
· An analogy by Joel Brandon-Bravo at Frommers, which compared social media with teenage desires. I won’t repeat it now, probably not appropriate, but email me if you want to hear it. Very funny.
All in all, it was a great evening and well worth the long train journey home.
